Finding a suitable place to settle down isn’t easy. Since rental life exists, the renters have been facing the truly difficult task to sift the good tenancy apartments or flats out. Naturally, each tenant has its own preferences, claims and tastes, when it comes to extras, contemporary facilities, luxury interior or necessary facilities. However, there are general things you should seek on mandatory, when you are on a rental view. On the other side, it is recommended for you to be aware of the things to run away if you are a renter. See some of them now and try to avoid them:
- Excessive fees. Remember that non-refundable fees should not be added to your tenancy contract. The only legal and regular fee you should pay is the tenancy deposit. Yet, though, it is refundable – after your moving out. Be aware of extra fees for additional roommate in future, too!
- Infestations. They vary from nasty cockroaches to invasion of ants. It does not matter what the pest type is. What is more important is that you do not actually want to survive that nightmare of chasing the bugs away. Besides, hiring pest control organisation is expensive and it is supposed to be your landlord's duty.
- Horrible previous tenants. If they haven’t called the tenancy cleaners before moving out and the hygiene situation in the house is tragic, better go and check on another rental. Sanitising the mess of the previous tenants is harsh, but you can never know what kind of bad stains may wait for you in the bathroom or in the kitchen.
- Broken appliances. Always test all of them and even if one electronic gadget is broken, do not make compromises and ask the landlord either to repair it before your moving in, or to replace with a new one.
- Mould. Usually it appears in the bathroom and it brings a whole bunch of allergens, infections and disease for you, your family, your kids and your pet. Also, mould could appear on rugs and furniture. The only way to get rid of mould in these cases is to hire professional dry carpet cleaning, which is also not your duty!
