Sending your child to a college is very important moment in life. But he/she must be prepared for the ‘appearance’ of some household chores that probably you’ve been taking care of. Teach the teenager that there are 5 cleaning supplies he/she will need for sure:
- Disinfecting Wipes – they are extremely effective against crumbs and sticky unidentified mess. Wipes also prevent spreading of the bacteria. They are really very useful. That is why, probably, students will use those wipes to disinfect pretty much anything;
- Sweeper-Mop – that is a great decision for dorm living. Imagine how great it is – the sweeper to double as a mop! That is not only convenient but space-saving, too. The teenager could also use the dry sweeper pads for sanitising lamps, bookshelves and other surfaces;
- Paper Towels – they are able to ‘deal’ with spills in no time! Not only that but they can be used as napkins, too. It is quite helpful the child to have a roll or two of them around, when he/she does the regular house cleaning;
- Mini Vacuum – it really should be mini because the dorm room is going to be small, for sure. The big vacuum cleaners are bulky and take too much space.
- Dish Soap – last but not least, dish soap simply cannot be missed! Doing the dishes is not an obligation of the expert cleaners, but of every single adult on the Earth. Just a small bottle could be a long-term resource, even for an entire year! A little bit can wash bowls, cups, plates, silverware, etc. The soap can also be used for washing clothes on hand. There will be such desperate times, really.
Except the cleaning supplies, there are some other items, which will be necessary for the dorm room. Take a look at our suggestions:
- Alarm clock – so the student will get up on time for class;
- Bed linens – it is a good decision the child to have his/her own sheets, comforter and pillow/pillows! That’s how he/she will feel more comfortable;
- Clothing and clothes hangers – the dorm closet will not be really large so pack clothes that are just enough. Clothing hangers, on the other side, will make the closet look more orderly;
- Computer – the teen is going to use his/her own laptop, not for fun only, but for studying purposes;
- Desk lamp – perfect for late-night reading while your roommate is sleeping.
All of our ideas are just the essentials, in our opinion. Surely, there is pretty much other stuff that could be added to the list. It’s all up to you, but we advise you – pack the teen’s luggage wisely!
