Cape Cod-style comes from colonial New England and is still common nowadays. It could give you plenty of various ideas, which you can use at your home. Here are some examples – check them out:
- Double dormers – dormers are used to punctuate the steep rooflines of the Cape-cod style houses. The most popular design includes gabled dormer that combines an ordinary pitched roof with two sides;
- The external walls of the Cape Cod-style house are usually covered with clapboarding or unpainted shingles. The two dormers provide a unified and attractive look of the exterior. Subtle and simple design elements are used both outside and inside;
- Upgrade your front door – dress it up. Well, not literally but you will boast your house appeal by improving the appearance of the door and the space around it. Paint the door in a distinct colour and include decorations such as wreath or different kinds of ornaments;
- When it comes to the interior, one of the specifics is the trim colour used. Cabinets, mantels and interior doors are painted again white. Probably you associate that colour with deeper and harder disinfecting. It should not scare you, you can always rely on domestic cleaners. In some rare cases, white may be replaced by sandy colour. Yet Cape-Cod style is inspired by the abundant wild nature, so you may also use colours such as sunset reds and ocean blues;
- The windows of the house are surrounded by shutters which colour matches the front door. The other variant is to paint them white;
- The clean look of white colour around the house combines perfectly with another important feature of Cape Cod-style homes, namely the hardwood flooring. That can be seen throughout all the rooms in the house except the kitchen. Ceramic tiles or linoleum are used there. If you decide to go out of the box, you might place a rug. Remember that steam carpet cleaning is the best way for its regular sanitising.
